Burmese amber
, also known as
Burmite
or
Kachin amber
, is
amber
from the
Hukawng Valley
in northern
Myanmar
. The amber is dated to around 99 million years old, during the earliest part of the
Cenomanian
age of the
Late Cretaceous
. The amber is of significant palaeontological interest due to the diversity of flora and fauna contained as inclusions, particularly arthropods including insects and arachnids.
These pieces are a beautiful deep honey color. Each piece contains at least one insect or parts of an insect, and most contain bits of plants, fungus and dirt. These inclusions are very small and are
best viewed through a jeweler’s loupe
. The details are astounding! You can see all the individual hairs on their legs and veins in their wings! Insects may include many types of flies, gnats, mosquitos, ants, beetles, etc.
It’s incredible to look at an insect which lived among the greatest dinosaurs!
You will receive one random piece of amber, which is guaranteed to contain at least one insect or parts of an insect.
This is genuine amber, not plastic. You can float the pieces in salt water to test them. Plastic will sink. Most amber will float unless the amount of inclusions is so high that it weighs the piece down. All of these pieces float. Each piece will arrive in a small round plastic container with lid as shown in the first image.
I will be happy to combine shipping if you purchase more than one. I also have auctions with different sizes. Please note that sizes are in millimeters. Please look at the pictures to see what to expect. The photos are taken from the actual pieces I am offering, but you may not receive the ones you see. A piece will be selected randomly for you.
